Some Junior Infants enjoying the bake sale today. We are all very thankful to the 5th and 6th class for putting so much of their time and effort into the bake sale today. We loved eating the yummy treats!
Clay Ducks in Senior Infants
Today Senior Infants painted their clay ducks after learning about their life cycle. Take a look at some of our work!
Budding electricians in Junior Infants
This week in Junior Infants we were learning about ‘houses’ in Aistear. We spent the week constructing houses, looking at materials and their properties, classifying the contents of different rooms in houses and chatting about our own houses.
Today in science, we focused on electricity. We had a 5 minute challenge to draw/write all the items we know that use electricity. Our top group ended up with a huge score of 8 items. Then, working in pairs, the children were set the challenge of getting a bulb to light, given just two crocodile clips, a bulb and a battery. With absolutely no assistance in terms of direction from teacher, there was light after only 5 minutes of trial and error. Take a look at our work below!
We were so so excited when we succeeded and we all helped one another to get all bulbs writing. When given the follow up challenge of making the buzzer work, we applied our learning very quickly.
Nun’s Cross Bake Off
We certainly enjoy our sweet treats on a Friday and this Friday had sweet treats like no other! 5th and 6th class have been working hard to reach their next reading challenge reward which was to hold a class Bake-Off challenge. To achieve their reward they have read 220 books as a class, that’s a lot of books and we couldn’t have reached it on a more appropriate week as we celebrate World Book Day!
The children all baked some really impressive treats, The Great Irish Bake Off better watch out!
It was a very difficult job for the teachers to choose a winner but after careful consideration to the work the children put in, their creativity, their presentation and of course, how well they claim they tidied up at home (whether this is true or not we don’t know), a 5th class and 6th class winner were unanimously chosen!
In the afternoon we turned our Bake Off into a school bake sale and together with our own baking and some lovely baking contributions from parents, we managed to raise €510.06 which is going to our Green School Committee. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and supported the bake sale! The money will be invested into our school garden and all the children, as well as our environment, will benefit from it!
