Welcome back to school! We hope you all had fun over the Easter Holidays.
Seachtain na Gaeilge took place from 12th to 16th March.
Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge ar fheabhas. Bhain muid taitneamh as na gníomhaíochtaí. Ghlac muid páirt i gceolchoirm, tráth na gceist agus chaith muid glas Dé hAoine. Scríobh muid leabhair Gaeilge freisin.
Rang a cúig agus a sé. Bhí a lán craic againn.
Here’s what some of the children had to say about Seactain na Gaeilge:
“We loved doing the Gaeilge books because my Mummy was very proud of me.” Anna, Senior Infants
“I loved playing Bingo with Junior Infants.” Esme, Senior Infants
“We loved singing at the concert because you got to be leprechauns.” Isaac, Senior Infants
“Is maith liom Seachtain na Gaeilge mar is maith liom Abair Liom”.
Amelia, 3rd Class
“Is brea liom an leabhar gaeilge!” Amelia, 4th Class
The Road Safety Authority visited the school recently. Orlaith from the RSA had some lovely words to say about the children:
“The children in every single class were absolutely excellent! Having visited many schools, I have to say the manners, respect and engagement of your students was top class!”
1st Class have some safety pointers for you all!
Jack: “Did you know it is never safe to get out of the car on the road side?”
Ben: “Did you know it is not safe to distract the driver?”
Holly: “Did you know it is not safe to walk in between parked cars.”
Arthur: “Did you know we should all have a working light and reflectors on our bikes?”
Many thanks to the PTA for organising ‘Wear Green Day’ on Friday, 16th March. A huge amount of effort was put into some wonderful green costumes and prizes were given to the best dressed. €241.70 was raised for our multi-purpose room which will be greatly used. Well done everyone!
Thanks to those who supported our recent Clothing Collection. We will let you know the amount raised as soon as we receive our cheque. There was a huge increase in support this year. It is much appreciated.
5th & 6th Class sold their Tooth Buddies on Wednesday, 21st March and what a success it was! They sold over 130 Tooth Buddies to children in the school as well as to parents and grandparents. A huge thank you to all the people who helped with the project and to everyone who supported it.
The Easter Bunny visited Nun’s Cross School for a fun filled Easter Egg Hunt on the last day of term! Thanks again to the PTA for organising this.
This month’s School Church Service will take place on Friday, 13th April in the Church at 10am. All welcome.
Feile Londubh is an annual Poetry and Music Festival produced in Ashford by Alchemy Music. This year some of the children from 3rd and 4th Class will take part. As with previous years there is a Music and Poetry Outreach Project taking place with both ourselves and Ashford National School. The composer Elaine Agnew will work with the schools’ students this week and develop a new piece of music to be premiered at the launch concert which takes place in Nun’s Cross Church at 7pm on Friday, 13th April.
Sunday, 22nd April, 11am
Nun’s Cross Church Family Service. All welcome.
Some parents/guardians have asked how decisions are taken about extraordinary school closures (for example, in hazardous weather or when there are electricity outages). The procedure is that the Principal discusses the advisability of closure with the Chairperson, Rev Rue, and together they take the decision on behalf of the Board of Management in the best interests of the school. In doing so, they prioritise the health and safety of the children and staff while bearing in mind potential disruption to parents/guardians.
Family Contribution & Photocopying Money
Thank you to all the parents who have recently paid their Family Contribution which includes your child’s insurance. If you haven’t paid, it is now overdue. Please see Rev Rue or Ms Harper in confidence if necessary. Photocopying Money is also now overdue. Please give to Sandra in the office as soon as possible. Thanks to those who have already paid.
